Innovating Wholeness Fun Run at SM MOA

It was never too late when I decided to run on BlueWater Day Spa Fun Run held last October 17, 2010 (Sun) at SM Mall of Asia (MOA). I thought I could never participate in this event; but due to inevitable changes on my scheduled flight, I decided to join the race.

at the staring point

This is my first run at SM MOA. My runningmate (MinnieRunner) and I started the run for the 10k category at around 5:40am. Yes, were late! The 10k gun start was at 5:20am, he he.. Yet, even though were late and thought of running the 5k distance instead, we still pursue (or were forced to pursue, LOL!) to run the whole 10k distance for there were a number of marshals in every turning point; and they could always identify us through our 10k race bibs (green). Thanks to MinnieRunner who run side-by-side with me even though she is already nursing some pain in her right knee, he he.. I'm not forcing her to run fast anyway, right MinnieRunner?

After the run, a post event was held and participated by many celebrities, mostly endorsers of the BlueWater Day Spa (BWDS). The program consists of the awarding ceremonies of the top 3k, 5k, and 10k finishers (male and female) and the "Jazz-up Your Singlet" contest.

MinnieRunner spotted Yael of SpongeCola, so we decided to take the chance of having a picture with him. We also spotted Mikaela, one of the BWDS endorsers, and had that chance of having a picture with her.

To wrap it up, even though I started late, I still managed to finish strong with the time of 1:16 (plus more or less 20 minutes, our official race result is 1:35:08). Indeed, this is yet another memorable experience of my running adventure. I'm glad I decided to RUN. :D

Ondoy No More: Thunderbird Resort

After conquering Mt. Makiling on my first (trail) run (UPLB Biodiversity Run 2010), here I am again on my second run; but this time it’s a run for a cause for last year’s Ondoy victims and to celebrate its 1st year anniversary.

We (MinnieRunner, RunningAtom, and Irish) went to Thuderbird Resort, Rizal thru a free bus ride provided by the event organizers at TriNoma around 4:30am. We had Ham and Egg sandwich and a hot chocolate from Mc Donalds for our breakfast, hehe. Thanks to RunningAtom who bought our breakfast that morning. :D

Before the gun start for 10k category, I told to myself that I will conquer the road this time but I was surprised that we (MinnieRunner and I) have to traverse hills and steep slope courses - another challenging route again for my second 10k run, he he.

conquer the finish line

The route does not tame me. I still run as fast as I could (leaving MinnieRunner behind who wishes to run at her own pace). Anyway, I still manage to talk with the runners I got to pace with along the 10K race route. I even got acquainted with a runner from adiNation (The Fort) but I forgot to ask his name. Also, whenever I would see MinnieRunner at a turnaround, I smile at the camera, he he.

I finished the race at 1:06:39 (from the official result race). Once more, this had been a fulfilling race for me. Something that I did not expect I could do. Only, similar to UPLB Run, I ended with slightly injured knees. Nonetheless, I still wanted to continue running. Burp!

My First Run: Biodiversity Fun Run

After a number of encouragements from my officemates, I gave in to their request of joining a fun run. But I never expected it to be:

  1. An out of town run (at UPLB)
  2. A trail run
Initially, I prefer to run a 5K distance; but MinnieRunner is dead serious in convincing me to run a 10K. She even promised to run side by side with me. So I did. We registered for 10K (together with MinnieRunner, RunningAtom, and ChickenLegs); while the others registered for 5K (RunningStitches and XiaiWalker).

As for my preparations for my first ever run, I worked out regularly and read informative articles from the net. And I believe it paid off.

Come race day, I (we, actually) am surprised to know that this ain’t a fun run; it is in fact a TRAIL RUN! But I guess my fear is overpowered by the excitement of being a newbie. I ran, ran, and ran some more. I even left MinnieRunner and ChickenLegs behind. We all targeted to finish the race at 1 hour and 30 minutes.

I am startled seeing a number of runners already on their way back while I’m still climbing the trails. Yes, I said climbing. It was all uphill on the first 5K of the route. Not to mention that it is muddy, slippery, and rocks!

The Trail

But it does not really bother me much; instead, it made me ran faster.

After reaching the turn around point, MinnieRunner was able to catch up with me.

MinnieRunner catching up on me

We ran side by side then. She laughed at me every time I hydrate – then burp; hence, the birth of my penname – BurpRunner. I don’t know, most likely, I am just afraid of being dehydrated (or worse, heat stroke).

On the final 2K of the route (I guess), I left MinnieRunner behind and push myself to my limits once I reached the road. Fortunately, RunningAtom captured a runner’s profile kind of shot on my way to the finish line.

On my way to the FINISH line

I registered 01:29:25 ranking 96th out of 162 10K runners. And that was a fulfilling one. Happiness is an understatement.

I guess, with too much of an excitement, I find myself in pain the night after the race. It’s too painful for me to move my legs. Nonetheless, I had a very memorable experience – a memorable first – first TRAIL run. And yes, I’m addicted now to RUNNING.
